Your first week in recovery housing around Lansdale: a practical plan

Moving into recovery housing means working out ordinary details in a new place: where to put your belongings, how to get to an appointment, and whom to ask when a plan changes. You do not need to solve the whole month on moving day. Start with a written plan for the first week, then adjust it with the people supporting you.

If you are moving to Lansdale or Hatfield, the checklist below can help you organize those conversations. It is a planning tool, not a treatment plan or a statement that every recovery home provides the same services.

Before arrival: confirm the basics directly

Ask the house for your agreed arrival time, the person who will meet you and a current packing list. Confirm what is furnished before buying anything. Ask about storage space, laundry, kitchen use and any restrictions on personal items. Keep the answers together so you do not have to reconstruct them from several conversations.

For Sunlight, read the house policies before your intake conversation. Write down anything you need explained. A policy page is a starting point; your specific arrival arrangements still need confirmation.

  • Save the house contact and your agreed arrival details.
  • Keep identification and appointment information somewhere you can find them easily.
  • Ask what paperwork is needed and how to provide it privately.
  • Confirm the amount and timing of any payment directly with the house.

Map the trips you actually need to make

List your first appointments, work shifts and other commitments with their exact destinations and required arrival times. Then plan the whole journey: the walk to a stop, the ride, any transfer, and the walk at the other end. A place that looks nearby on a map may still require a separate transport plan.

SEPTA’s official website provides trip planning, schedules and service alerts. Use the intended travel date and check the return journey too. Recheck before leaving; do not build a week around a timetable screenshot someone saved months ago.

If you are arranging a lift, agree on the pickup location and return plan rather than assuming the driver can wait. If a route does not work, raise that problem before the appointment. Ask your case manager or support contact what alternatives may be available, without assuming the house supplies rides.

Keep housing and treatment contacts separate

Sunlight provides recovery housing and works with outside providers; it does not provide clinical treatment on site. Put your housing contact and any outside treatment contacts in your phone under clear names. Confirm upcoming appointments with the provider responsible for them.

For help finding local services, the Montgomery County Office of Drug & Alcohol links to treatment and recovery support resources. The county distinguishes clinical assessment and treatment from non-clinical recovery support. Ask the relevant service about its intake process and current availability before making a trip.

Build a simple weekly page

Use a notebook or calendar to put the fixed commitments in first. Add travel time, household responsibilities and time for meals, laundry and shopping. Ask the house which activities are required and how to handle a conflict with work or an appointment.

For recovery meetings or community activities, confirm the location, format and time with the organizer. A listing does not tell you whether a particular meeting fits your needs or whether its details have changed. Avoid filling every empty hour before you understand your new routine.

Decide what help would be useful

A family member or friend may be able to help with a specific task: bringing an item you forgot, making a planned trip or checking in at an agreed time. Say what would help and what you would prefer to handle yourself. You can ask for practical support without sharing every detail of your schedule or care.

Keep other residents’ privacy in mind too. Ask before taking or sharing a photograph, and do not post someone else’s name, whereabouts or personal story.

End the week with a short review

Look at what worked and what still needs an answer. Was the commute realistic? Did you understand the house routine? Is there an appointment or cost you need help clarifying? Bring a short list to the appropriate contact rather than waiting for several small problems to accumulate.

To explore Sunlight’s homes, start with the locations and housing information. For your own move, confirm availability and arrangements directly before making plans.
